Bobby the Intern

Bobby the Intern, as the name suggests, is a recent convert to the practice of providing the tunes from behind the decks. Hailing from California, Bobby has made fast friends in Philadelphia, quickly becoming a member of the Bangarang community. After a few months of strutting his stuff on the dance floor and learning the basics from other BeatCorps members, he made his DJ debut at Play Del Fuego, and has been hooked ever since. “The feeling of dropping ‘that track’ and looking up to see the smiles and exhilaration of my friends and strangers was euphoric,” he says, “I now realize it’s my true passion.”

Bobby grew up listening to a lot of jazzy electronic music featuring deeper vibes. He enjoys spinning deep tech house and various electronica, but building the mood and catering to the flow of the dance floor is his objective above all else. Always ready to hold it down, Bobby was dubbed “the Intern” by DZA, in part because of his willingness to help, but not without the occasional mistake. Considering how quickly he’s learned the ropes, Bobby the Intern is certainly one to watch. He’s got the stamina to rage it huge until, at times, he is the last man standing. What he dreads most is being told to stop or turn down. “As long as I have folders of music that haven’t been played that night, I could keep playing. It’s like a drug to me.”
